Ok so one of the latest skin treatment trends out there are derma rollers. I've been hearing about them for a while now and kept wanting to try one. When I saw the opportunity to try one pop up on *tomoson I did not hesitate to apply.
For those that do not know derma rollers are long sticks with a roller at the top. Attached to the roller are multiple spikes. The point of a derma roller is that it lightly pierces the skin. It is thought that this piercing does one of two things. Number 1 it allows for better absorption of different skin products. Number 2 it promotes the production of collagen which is supposed to help smooth out the skin and reduce scaring.
I tried this on a couple of spots. My first fear was that it was going to hurt. Thankfully it didn't. As far as bleeding goes on my face I had none but on my leg it bled a tiny bit. I don't know if that had more to do with the pressure I was using. To be honest I didn't notice any difference at all. Granted this was only one treatment and it can take several treatments to see a difference. Since you should wait and give your skin time to heal in between treatments I still haven't done a second session.
For now a few weeks after my first session I'm not impressed at all. It takes a long time to properly do and I made no difference in my skin at all. I'll give this at least two more sessions but for now my thoughts are that this is just another fad that does nothing. 1 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Terry Treetop and The Little Bear by Tali Carmi

I had seen the Terry Treetop books on Amazon and so I was happy to see a posting on **Tomoson looking for a review of one of the books. How could I resist?
Terry Treetop heads out into his yard on the first day of spring. He sees a baby bear come wandering into his backyard he is about to go play with the cub when the mama bear comes along to get her cub. Soon Terry hears the cries of the baby bear who is in trouble.
Ok so first off I usually can suspend my disbelief and read things like talking animals etc. While there were no talking animals what bothered me was I felt this might have been giving the wrong lesson about baby bears. At no point does Terry realize just how dangerous it is to play with baby bears and that mama bears will quite simply kill whoever goes near their cub.
But setting aside that one issue I have with the book it was actually a rather cute book. I loved the drawings and I love that Terry was so enamored with nature. I like that it helps teach kids about the early signs of spring.
My son enjoyed the book and loved the baby cub. He loved when the cub was playing on the tire swing. I could totally see my son being like Terry and wanting to play with the baby bear (partly, why I have a problem with the book. I don't want my son going near them). With that said I would still love to check out the other books in the series.
My son found it to be a 5 star book. I have to knock off one star though for the whole not teaching that wild animals are dangerous lesson.
So 4 out of 5 stars.

*This book was read with my special needs son who is severely learning disabled. The review reflects not only my opinion but his as well

Product Review: SR Scar Removal + with Vitamin C by The Healing Touch
Ok so I know that I'm mostly a book reviewer but when I saw this on *Tomoson I had to put in a request. Scars are a very sensitive topic for me. I have a lot of them and most of them happened after an accident in my kitchen a few years ago.
I can't remember exactly how long ago it was but my son was still a toddler in diapers so he was probably 2 or 3 years old. I was making pasta for the whole family. I have one of those pots where the colander sits right in it so all you have to do is pull out the pasta. Well, having a small child in the house I didn't want to leave the pot of boiling water on the stove. So after removing the pasta I went to carry the pot to sink. But something happened I slipped and some of the water splashed on my arms. It was painful and suddenly I'm falling while pouring the whole pot of boiling starchy water on my body. I then landed in the puddle of water. I remember hearing myself screaming but I hadn't felt the pain yet. I actually thought to myself "Oh man by the way I'm screaming this is really really bad." And it was! I had 2'nd degree burns on over 30% of my body with 10% first degree burns and 3% was on the border between second and third degree. To say it was the most painful thing I have ever experienced in my life does not even begin to describe it.
So as you can imagine I have scars. Surprisingly and number of them have faded and are gone but I still have major scaring on my one leg and spots here and there. So I'm checking out to see how it does on the worst of the worst of my scaring my leg.
My first concern was with how it was going to smell. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it did not have a terrible smell. It reminded me almost of cocoa butter. The bottle is not huge so it is perfect for throwing into a purse. It has a pump that puts out a nice size. It took me only 3 pumps to get coverage for my leg. For smaller scars it would only take one. I rubbed it in making sure to spend extra time massaging it in to help break up the scar tissue.
After using this twice daily for a couple of weeks I can't say that I see a huge difference in my scar tissue but because of how extensive it is I imagine it will take longer usage to start to see difference. I think the edges are starting to lighten up a bit though. I will say this it is doing a wonderful job moisturizing my skin. My scar tissue is always extra dry but since starting this I haven't had the itchy dry skin that I've become so used to.
Because of how well it moisturizes my scar tissue I'm going with 5 out of 5. But again I cant say as to how well it does at breaking down the scar tissue because of the extent of mine.
IF you want to try out this product for yourself head on over to amazon to get your own bottle.

Book Review: Green Bird by Mark Ansel

Green Bird is the story of a little green bird who lives with a pink squirrel. One day Green Bird decides he wants to find his real family. So off he flys encountering many other "green" creatures and objects. But none of them are his family. Little Green Bird decides he wont give up looking for his family.
Ok so...I have some mixed feelings on this book. First it reminded me a lot of my mother's favorite children's book Are You My Mother? The reason I say that is because Green Bird asks every green object he comes upon if it is a green bird. I'm still not sure on how I feel on the parallel between the two books. I could look past the one or two grammatical errors as this was a review copy I was reading. But, there was one thing that I did not like. The book ends on a cliffhanger. Call me old fashioned but I don't think children's picture books should ever end on a cliffhanger. There should always be a happily ever after or at least a happily for now. Five year olds shouldn't have to wait for the next book (is there going to be one?) to find out if Green Bird finds his family. Most children's books are set up so that way it doesn't matter what order you read them in and they always have a resolution. Even the Harry Potter books end with a happily for now.
With that all said it wasn't a terrible book. I liked the simple and sweet illustrations.
It was cute and my son enjoyed it. He liked trying to figure out what the green things were that the bird came upon before they were revealed. He also didn't seem to mind that we didn't find Green Bird's family. So I asked him what he thought of the book. With a finger gently tapping his chin he told me. "I think I'm gonna go with 5 stars mommy."
So there you have it 5 out of 5 stars for my son
