Mama's Holiday Wish List

Mama’s Holiday Wish List Meme

TodaysMama (link to: http://bit.ly/tmwishlist) and GameStop (link to: http://bit.ly/gamestop10) are giving away a sleighful of gifts this holiday season and to enter I’m sharing this meme with you.

1. What is your holiday wish for your family? We've been hit by very hard financial times over the past few years but this year is the worst. We have even consulted a lawyer about bankruptcy as we've had no other choice. My wish is really simple I just wish that I can pull together the perfect Christmas for the kids without them ever knowing that this year out of all the years we can't even afford to buy them the smallest of gifts (I've been trying to win in giveaways most of their presents)

2. What is your Christmas morning tradition? We have my stepdaughter ever other year for Christmas morning. So on the years we have her we get up early and sit down with cups of coffee/hot chocolate and go through our stockings before opening presents under the tree. On years where we don't have her we wait till we get her later in the day to go through the stockings and presents.

3. If you could ask Santa for one, completely decadent wish for yourself, what would it be? A house. Nothing fancy but a 3 bedroom house in a safe neighborhood with a good school district. I'm sick of renting an apartment in a neighborhood that just keeps getting scarier and scarier

4. How do you make the holidays special without spending any money? One of our favorite traditions is to turn out all the lights in house and put on Christmas music and just sit and watch the lights on the Christmas tree. We do it every single year and it is just so relaxing.

5. What games did you play with your family growing up? My family was never big into playing games. But now with my own family we play boardgames almost every single week and video games a couple of nights a week.

6. What holiday tradition have you carried on from your own childhood? Applesauce at the Christmas dinner. It sounds weird but it was something my grandfather always insisted on and was the first food he would look for at the Christmas/Thanksgiving table. Every year I have to have my apple sauce at the table just like my grandfather.

7. Where would you go for a Christmas-away-from-home trip? For a short trip would love to go to Disney World. For a longer overseas trip I would love to visit Ireland or England for Christmas.

8. Check out GameStop (link to: http://bit.ly/gamestop10) and tell us, what are the three top items on your GameStop Wish List this year? Lego Harry Potter for XBox360, Fifa Soccer 2011, and Fable III for xbox

My Etsy Finds for Sat 11/6- Peter Pan

Peter Pan was created by Scottish novelist and playwright J.M. Barrie. Peter Pan first appeared in a section of The Little White Bird, a 1902 novel written for adults. As most of us know Peter Pan is the story of a boy with the magical ability to fly and how never grows up and lives in Neverland with his gang the Lost Boys. There have been many books, plays, and movies produced based on the story of Peter Pan. The most well known is the Disney version which was originally released in theaters in 1953. However these days the character of Tinkerbell has taken over in popularity. There have been several films made just about Tinkerbell. For these etsy finds I decided to avoid overly Disneyfied versions of Peter and Tink. I personally was always a Wendy fan by the way.

My Etsy Finds for 11/5- Anne of Green Gables

Anne of Green Gables is one of the most beloved books by any little girl has who read it. The first book was written by Lucy Maud Montgomery in 1908. In total there were 9 books in the series. The books follow the life of orphan Anne Shirley. She has been bounced around from one house to another in her young life before she finally ends up with Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. She is a precocious child who always seems to say and do the wrong thing but she manages to worm her way into every one she meets hearts (including the reader). There have been a number of movies and TV series based on the books but the most memorable was the miniseries made in the mid 80s starring Megan Follows as Anne.

My Etsy Finds for November 4th- The Neverending Story Inspired items

One of my all time favorite children's book is The Neverending Story. I always identified with Bastian. I was the geeky girl who was bullied and wanted nothing more than to be left alone with my books. I was a daydreamer with my head always in the clouds. I always felt like I was living out the stories I read. The Neverending Story was first written in German by Michael Ende. It was first published in 1979 and the English translation was published in 1983. It was made into a very successful movie in the 80's (which is where most people know the story from). There were two more movies the second one loosely based on the second part of the book. The third movie used characters from the book but was not based on anything in the actual book itself.

My First Giveaway! How does a $5 Panera Gift card sound? Closed

Photobucket
I love Panera. With a wide selection of breads, sweets, sandwiches, drinks, soups and salads there is no ending to the options of what to eat there. I have one right by my work and frequent it often during my lunches. Panera is great for getting an ice cold drink on a hot summer day or a nice hot coffee or hot chocolate on a cold wintery day. For my very first giveaway I'm giving away a $5 giftcard to Panera. I know it is not a lot but this is still a small blog. Besides $5 is enough to get a nice hot drink to warm you up. Especially now with Holiday shopping upon us we all need some sort of pick me up in between racing from one store to another.

My Etsy Finds for November 3rd-Dr. Seuss

One of the most well known and accessible children's authors is Dr. Seuss. Theodor Seuss Geisel was born March 2, 1904. He wrote some of the world's most recognizable children's books. Among them are Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Horton Hears a Who, Yertle the Turtle, Fox in Socks, Oh the Places You'll Go, Green Eggs and Ham, and many many more. Dr. Suess died September 24, 1991 but his works live on in the hearts and minds of millions of adults and children. There have been multiple tv shows and movies inspired by his books and his books have been translated into over 15 different languages.
